President of University of Glasgow Anna F. Dominiczak visited our lab on November 5th, 2014.
Dr. Anna Dominiczak is Regius Professor of Medicine, Vice Principal and Head of College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow as well as honorary consultant physician with the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. A graduate of the Medical School in Gdansk, Poland, Prof Dominiczak, is one of the world’s leading cardiovascular scientists and clinical academics. She held a British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Glasgow between 1997 and 2010, as well as the directorship of the Cardiovascular Research Centre between 2000 and 2010. Her major research interests are in hypertension, cardiovascular genomics and systems medicine and her total research income in the last three years totals more than £30 million. She has been invited to give over 100 international plenary and state-of-the-art lectures, including the Presidential Award and Lecture of the Canadian Hypertension Society, the Corcoran Award and Lecture of the American Heart Association, R. D. Wright Award and Lecture of the high Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia and the Bjorn Folkow Award and Lecture of the European Society of Hypertension. In 2010 Anna was a Sackler Lecturer at the Tel Aviv University, in 2013 she was awarded the William Harvey Outstanding Contribution to Science Award and Lecture and in 2014 the Robert Tigerstedt Award and Lecture in Helsinki.

Dr. David Cohen is a Robert H. Ebert professor of Medicine and Health Sciences and Technology, Harvard Medical School, physician of Brigham and Women's Hospital, chairman of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. His research program has focused on understanding the molecular regulation of hepatic lipid and glucose metabolism. Among his contributions has been to describe novel roles for phosphatidylcholine transfer protein (PC-TP) in the control of hepatic lipid and glucose homeostasis. He is currently an Editor-in-Cheif for the journal Hepatolgy and American Journal of Physiology.
Animal Supply and Experiment Service Platform Held its Annual Customer Seminar
With the spring festival approaching, our Center organized its annual customer seminar on the Jan. 27th, 2015. Invited by Dr.Wenzhe Ho, the director of the Center, the teaching staffs and directors, which are responsible for animal use and animal experiment from colleges or institutes including Collage of Life Science, School of Medicine and affiliated hospitals of Wuhan University, have participated in this seminar. Staffs from department of animal experiment and animal production have also attended the meeting.
Dr. Tang Hongbin, associated director of the Center, hosted this meeting. He first took a brief summary of our works and achievements on platform services of animal supply in the past year and mentioned that our new service, "Quarantine of imported/entry animals", will be on in the next few months to meet the developing demand from some research institutes and labs. He also emphasized that, we have been adhered to the customer-oriented service concept, paying increasing attention to the customer needs and working towards improving the quality of experimental animals as well as our platform service. Attendees expressed great satisfaction on our animal supply service and gratitude to our works and efforts in the past year.
During the meeting, directors from different unit shared their experiences on daily animal use and management and discussed with relevant staff from our center concentrating on their unsolved problems in common. Meanwhile, attendees offered their comments and suggestions on like the quarantine service and proposed us to build a real-time communication platform on usage and management of experimental animal for customers to exchange with each other or to give feedback, maximizing working efficiency of everyone.
